Helping Destitute Families of Cancer Patients

Caritas is proud to launch our newest project, a fund to sponsor the medical care of cancer patients who are not able to afford the treatments and medicines required to deal with this disease.

The brainchild of Antoinette and Aron Wu, they put their incredible energies into an event in April 2011 to raise the initial funds to launch this project.

CANCER SURVIVOR STARTS A NEW CHAPTER

17-year-old Zhao Jin Min is rebuilding her life after her courageous 8-year battle against bone cancer. CARITAS has been supporting Jin Min’s medical and surgical needs since 2008.

In late 2010, Jin Min underwent her final surgery to amputate her cancer-ridden leg followed by a one month-long intensive physical therapy in Shanghai.

For almost a year following the amputation, Jin Min endured an arduous recovery period learning to walk again and adjusting to her new life.

She said that “her initial months were the hardest to adapt as she kept feeling that her leg was still there, but she has now gotten used to wearing the prosthetic”.

Today, Jin Min works at a bridal salon in Lin Fen, Shanxi Province, to help relieve her family’s financial burden. She is learning about makeup, photography, lighting, and photo processing. She is very grateful and happy to have this job as she is building valuable new skills.
